Gypsum board (also known as wall panel or dry wall) is a plate-shaped artificial building material. It is made by adding additives to calcium sulfate (gypsum) and then extruding it into plate shapes, followed by calcination and grinding. It can be used to build interior walls or ceilings.Fibers (usually paper or glass fibers), plasticizers, foaming agents and some anti-mold additives are added to gypsum powder, which will enhance flame retardancy and reduce water absorption.

CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS

Compared with the slatted plastering construction method that takes a week to complete, a two-story villa can be built in one to two days using gypsum board. The simple construction method of gypsum board makes it accessible to many amateur home carpenters.

ACOUSTIC TREATMENT

Gypsum board construction can reduce the transmission of sound through walls and ceilings. Several construction books indicate that thick gypsum boards can reduce sound transmission. On the other hand, the engineer's manual suggests using multiple layers or different thicknesses of gypsum boards bonded together, or using gypsum boards specially designed for sound insulation. At the same time, use construction methods and details such as steel keel frames, wider spacing, double-layer, and fillers. By adding 1/2-inch gypsum boards on both sides of the wooden board wall, adding elastic damping to one side and filling it with glass fiber, the sound propagation rating (STC) can be raised from the ordinary 33 level of the wooden board wall to 59 level.
