Ceiling T-Grid Systems Explained - What Every Importer Needs to Know
A ceiling T-grid is the metal suspension framework that supports ceiling tiles in a dropped ceiling system. It gets its name from the T-shaped cross-section of each rail. A complete system consists of four components: the Main Tee (3,600mm primary rail), the Cross Tee (600mm or 1,200mm secondary rail), the Wall Angle (perimeter support fixed to walls) and hanger wires that suspend the grid from the structure above.
The two global standards are T-24 and T-15, referring to the visible face width of the rail in millimetres. T-24 is the most widely used system across Africa, Latin America and Asia, offering broad compatibility with standard ceiling tiles at a lower cost. T-15 provides a narrower, more refined appearance and is commonly specified in hotels, premium retail and high-end commercial interiors.
